Me touching the water of Lake Louise. Why is the water in the lake emerald green? It's because the water contains many fine particles of dust. The dust came to the ground with the snow thousands of years ago and was trapped in the ice when the snow was compressed to form glacier. When the glacial ice melts, the dust followed the water into the lake, and the fine particles of dust reflected only the green spectrum of the light into our eyes.
