Dresden - The Semperoper, one of the best-known buildings in Dresden and perhaps Germany. One of the grandest opera house in the world, the Semperoper has a tough history. Opened in 1841, it was burned down less than 3 decades later. Rebuilt in 1878, it was damaged in WWII and reopened only in 1985. It was closed again during the "flood of the century" in 2002. It was only reopened after a series of restoration were performed to undo the damages caused by the flood.
