Some of the totem poles in the Museum of Anthropology at UBC. According to the guide, the First Nations people have 4 main kinds of totem poles: House Poles (representing the identity and status of a family), Mortuary Poles (marking the death of a person), Memorial Poles (telling a story or commemorating famous people), and one more type of poles (I forgot what it is... oops)
